View James Yap's Nike Video

Thanks to Kuya John Dacanay of Basketball Exchange. Because of him I was able to watch the latest video of my favorite basketball cager, James Carlos Yap. As you may know, James is an endorser of Nike. He former represented Converse but last year, he shifted to the more popular Nike brand. If you watched that All Philippine Cup last year, you must have surely noticed the pair of lucky shoes that he wore during the series.

Here's the video that I downloaded from YouTube:

Notice that James Yap was speaking in his native tongue. I think that's a great strategy because it captures the essence of Nike's My Game brand which is actually to tell the story of our local hard court heroes highlighting their humble beginnings. As for James, he hails from Escalante, Negros. He went to Bacolod to study in High School and it was during those times when he first showed his brilliance on the court. After high school, he was recruited by the University of the East in the UAAP. In 2003, he won MVP although he failed to torch his team to the finals. On that same year, he applied for the PBA draft and was picked 2nd over-all by the Purefoods Tender Juicy HotDogs. In 2005-2006, he won his 2nd MVP but this time it's for his excellent showing in the pro-ranks on that year.

Entering his 4th year in the PBA, James is expected to be one of league's main attractions. And if his showing in the ongoing pre-season games is an indication, looks like James is fast becoming the new dominant force in the PBA. But that's not the only thing working for him. He's cute, too!

Christian Bautista sorry for skipping lyrics of national anthem

I was talking to my bestfriend on the phone last Monday when I learned that something happened to Christian Bautista. If you are from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, you surely recognize him. He's one of the best young male balladeers in the country and perhaps in Asia. His first album which includes the song The Way You Look at me became a smash hit in 2004 and sold a whopping 150,00 copies (2x platinum)according to Warner Music Indonesia! I thought he had an accident but just today while I was reading the news, I discovered that what happened to him was something "worst." To put it politely, the Asian Pop Idol missed out some lines in our National Anthem!

Here's the story from ABS-CBN Interactive:

Christian Bautista sorry for skipping lyrics of national anthem

Singer Christian Bautista's vocal prowess might have catapulted him to the top of the pop charts but he still makes mistakes on stage.

On Sunday, Bautista missed a few lines while singing the Philippine national anthem at an exhibition match between reigning world bantamweight champion Gerry PeƱalosa and NABF bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion at Metropolis Mall in Alabang.

Near the end of "Lupang Hinirang" (Chosen Land), Bautista sang the lines "Ang bituin at araw na kailanpama'y di magdidilim. Lupa ng araw ng luwalhati't pagsinta." He missed two lines and then finished the song with the final line "Ang mamatay ng dahil sa 'yo!"

The correct lyrics, according to National Commission for Culture and the Arts, are:

Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati’t pagsinta (Beautiful land of love, O land of light)
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo (In thine embrace ‘tis rapture to lie)
Aming ligaya, na pag may mang-aapi (But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged)
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo. (For us, thy sons, to suffer and die. )

The song was met with both applause and some jeers. Bautista later apologized for the error, saying that he had a momentary lapse while singing the anthem.

"I apologize to the Filipino people for the unforgivable lapse of memory that occurred yesterday during my rendition of the national anthem. I was recovering from a cold and the adrenalin and excitement of the moment got me through it. Unfortunately, it was the cost of a momentary lapse on my part," he said in a statement.

"I promise that my next rendition of our national anthem will be faultless," he added.

The music of "Lupang Hinirang" was composed in 1898 by Julian Felipe, with lyrics adapted from the Spanish poem "Filipinas" by Jose Palma in 1899. The lyrics were translated into Filipino by Julian Cruz Balmaceda, Ildefonso Santos, and Francisco Caballo with minor revisions made in 1962.

Bautista is a regular host of ABS-CBN's weekly variety show ASAP '07. He is busy preparing for his first major solo concert at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on October 6.

***

There must be something with Lupang Hinirang that makes even the best artists in our country to commit mistakes. Christian's bloppers don't stand alone. Geneva Cruz was once summoned by the National Commission of Culture and Arts for her ala-pop rendition of the song. Jenniffer Bautista, a co-Kabitenya, didn't hit the last remaining notes of the song during the ceremonies of the PAcquiao-Morales second match! Makes me wonder where have all the idiot-boards gone!

But I won't be too harsh on this, alright. To sing the most symbolic song in the world in front of a huge crowd is a total nerve-wracker. These people are just humans prone to commit mistakes especially when the nerves get in. I wouldn't dare sing this song even in front of my family. I just couldn't sing it alone! Would you believe that I cover my ears everytime I see somebody tries to sing it on national TV? Yes, that's weird but I try to pray everytime that they make it. I don't want them to be embarrassed!

So, what lesson can we derive from this? Practice makes perfect? Hell, these artists spent considerable time rehearsing so that everything goes well. But well, it will happen and sometimes it happens to the best of them. I'm glad that Christian apologized. That's the right thing to do. I'll be looking forward to the day that he redeems himself. Yep, he will!

Cuties Galore! Get ready for the heartthrobs!

Wow, what a moment! The past couple of days, I’ve been searching for another “subject” for my ala-paparazzi blog. I was in the mall last Saturday and I saw two (2) guys who’re equally worth a snag but well, my bestfriend is kind of a party pooper, so I wasn’t able to take a snapshot! But today is the day I’m going to give you one hell of a post! It’s our annual Intrams and with it comes the exciting Mr. And Miss Intramurals 2007. I asked for “subjects,” and hell I got it!

I came 15 minutes late, but I’m still pretty lucky I still got the best seat in the house. I sat somewhere near, actually I was beside the judges table so I had a pretty good look. So fans brace yourself and check this baby out!

I've seen this guy at McDonald's with I think his girlfriend. He's taking up nursing. Don't you want to be taken care of someone like him?

This guy represented the HRM department. During the casual wear, he was wearing a real tight pair of pants. And I swear it's tight!!!

This Iya Villania look-alike was a candidate from the Computer Science Department. She won the 2nd runner-up honors. Good work!

Are you lonely tonight? This cutie was from the Criminology Department. I wonder how many good lokking officers we have in the academy?

KC Conception, is that you? This is Laura who represented the Nursing Department. She's graduating ths year. It was actually the first time he joined a pageant despite several invitations in the past. Hey, her parents are reasonably strict! She won 1st runner-up, by the way.

Looks young, noh? Yeah, he's only 16 years old. You might want to wait ladies before you could have a piece of him!
You know who this guy is? He's Marlon! Remember the name! He's currently taking up Business Management. You sure can't handle him!
And the winner is......

This is Angel, a Marketing Management student in only her first year. She's this year's Miss Intrams! Wait to go Angel! You truly made our department proud. Wait, you sure you wouldn't get pneumonia?

Click it Forward: Increase your network; In crease your EARNINGS!?? This game just might WORK!

I was a senior in college when I saw the film Pay it Forward which starred Haley Joey Osment. Haley, as we all know, is the same wunderboy who played the role of a child who possess pyschic powers in the film, 6th Sense. But this time he playedthe role of boy named Trevor who was given a project by his Social Studies teacher. His assignment was to find a way to change the world. Thus, he came up with the concept of “pay-it-forward.” This concept pertains to the practice of passing one good deed from one person to the other as a form of “paying-off” one’s debt of gratitude to somebody else. Thus, instead of “paying it back” or returning the favor, the receiver of the good deed must “pay it forward” and the cyle goes on. In the movie, the little school project became a social movement! However, Trevor’s life was cut short. He was stabbed by a bully while protecting a friend and died. His family was devastated. But their grief didn’t last that long. One day, they were surprised with the number of people who came to their house to offer candles and prayers. They were actually the people who, in one way or another, have been positively touched by Trevors’s noble pet project.

If you’re reading this through Digg, you might probably contemplating on hitting the “burry this” button. But don’t just do it yet.

The cyberspace is huge and extensive. Yet, in just a fraction of a second, we can already touch many people’s lives or send our messages across borders.

Just one click and one lucky guy could already be a millionaire!

We have heard about Google AdSense and all other affiliate programs that offer opportunities to earn dollars just by blogging or publishing our thoughts through the world-wibe-web. Inspired by the story of Trevor, I come with my own plan to change the world of cyber geeks out there. I call it, “The Click it Forward Game.” The mechanics are simple, I just need to randomly click one relevant ad and tag at least 3 blogs once a year and invite their authors to pass the deed and “click it forward” to form a network of people clicking it forward! This chain reaction just might work should you want to have new friends and consequently boost your chances of earning more!! Don’t just sit there? If you can find time sending chain letters through Friendster, joining me wouldn’t hurt you one bit!

As we speak, I’m browsing Digg and Technorati. In a few minutes, I’ll be launching this game and hope that Google won’t kick my butt for it. If you’re still reading this and you believe it’s a great idea, I invite you to do the same. Three blogs, 3 tags and clicks. Let’s share the wealth and make this world a better place! Do a generous deed today.

“Click it forward!”

High School Musical 2.. I love ann hudgens!!!

Last Sunday, I was able to watch the premiere of High School Musical 2. If you were on outerspace last year, High School Musical is one of the most successful teenybopper films in 2006. It was an original Disney movie which was launched on January 20 of last year. Its soundtrack is also one of the best selling albums in that same year. It starred Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

You know, it’s one of my favorite films now. What’s not to love about it? It’s young. It’s hip. The characters were loveable. The songs were great. The dance moves were fantastic. It gave me a walk down memory-lane. I think that’s one particular reason why so many people love it. Everybody went to high school, right? It’s about being young and free!

Did you know that Vanessa is a Fil-am? She’s a proud Pinay just like her mother. According to her, she was brought up the Pinoy way. She probably can speak Tagalog, too! And did you also know that Zac is her real-life boyfriend? They probably have gotten closer while doing the film. Aren’t they such a lovely couple? I feel Zac is a great guy. He’s very protective. In that same interview this certain broadsheet published, he said he doesn’t want to talk about his relationship with Vanessa. He wanted the discussion to revolve around her as a co-star. That’s great news. At least we know he’s taking care of her.

Back to the movie, like the prequel, HSM2 was very entertaining. It’s rock and roll. The dance numbers were cute. I specifically liked the baseball scene where Ryan and Chad sort of squared off. I realized Ryan Evans is likeable. One thing I notice though: he’s no longer the “soft guy” in the movie. I thought he’s gay (not that being gay is bad).

I also liked the break-up scene between Troy and Gabriella because eventhough they’re singing, you could see the hurt in their eyes. I really got carried away. The song number, which they also did during the Star Dazzle Show was something sweet. You could really see in their body language that they have something special.

Sharpay never changed! She’s still very convincing with her childish, irritating ways. But she’s great, anyway. Kelsi is also one of my pets because her role is very, very pivotal. I hope she could have more exposure next time. Chad and Zeke were okay.

I heard Disney is already writing HSM3. I have no idea how they plan to top 1 and 2 but I do hope they can come up with something good again. How about putting a new "nice" guy there. Perhaps, Gabriella's childhood sweetheart? A "real" love-triangle of sorts?

My post is long already. But don’t take my word for it. Watch it!

Inside the PF-BGK pre-season game

Hi, guys! First of all, I'd like to apologize for those people who expected to receive game updates from me yesterday. Sorry po because aside from being lobat, I wanted not to mind anything else but to enjoy watching the game. Nakaka-tense kasi minsan mag-text pa. I didn't want to miss a thing because miss na miss ko na yung team. Sorry po ulit, but I'm sure Ate Teya updated you last night na rin. (Thanks Ate!)

So here's some of the things I would like to share.

The game and the players

I am not going to discuss the details of the game now because you probably have read the news already. Maybe, I'll share my observations na lang regarding the team and the players.

Purefoods came with a complete line-up. Actually, they are more than complete because I saw 15 players there. Alex Crisano and Omanzie Rodriguez were in "civies." Alex was very friendly, almost hugging every BGK crew that came out of the dug-out. Ang likot pa niya because he was hopping from one seat to the other. I think he's trying to make good PR in preparation for his "comeback." Omanzie naman was very quiet. I guess he's shy.

The first guys who came out for the shootaround were Robert Sanz, Noy and Roger. Si Noy naman is always like that. He's very disciplined talaga. Robert looked solid, I mean, physique-wise. If he could crack the slot, I think he can be a decent SF, too. I haven't seen so many PCU games but feeling ko makakatulong yung katawan niya. The other new face was Ardy Larong. I think he's small to play SF but from what I saw, he looked solid defensively. He knows how to slash and you're probably right that he's like Junthy. He doesn't have a silky touch from the perimeter but I think he'll be a good defensive stopper like Kuya Rey.

The game was very entertaining. Although Purefoods surged ahead early in the 1st quarter, the Kings came back through the efforts of vastly improved Sunday Salvacion and Billy Mamaril. Never say die attitude talaga but I think it would've have been sweeter if the big guns were there. The crowd was pretty appreciative for both squads. They really cheered them on. During the second half, I thought BGK would go all the way because the lead was trimmed down to 1 but PJ, Kerby and James all came to the rescue. Noticeably, it looks like PF is dead serious in reclaiming the AFC crown. Malakas ang pakiramdam ko.

James played superb basketball and he's in great shape, ah? I knew he was due for a big game kasi thrice na sila naglaro and in those instances, so-so lang yung laro niya. So, I wasn't really surprised that he played well. He toyed around his defenders with a variety of moves. He was like gliding in the air during one of his lay-ups. Super napa-wow nga yung mga nasa likod ko. He also shot a buzzer-beating trey that pushed the lead back up to 4 just when the Kings were threatening to come back. Just a sidenote: natuwa lang ako kay Tubid kasi he's playing good defense against James pero malinis na depensa talaga, may respeto. It's also fun seeing them tap each other after a good play or kung may deadball.

Paul was used sparingly but he doesn't look like a guy who's about to be axed. Nakita ko naman yung enthusiasm niya to play defense and make plays. I'll surely miss him. But wait, may good news daw eh, bago. He's not going to be given away? I'm just not sure.

Roger Yap was really smart at "salbahe" but in a fun way. He's really given Escalona a tough welcoming. You see naman his body and you see Macky's, so for like 4-5 instances, Macky looked like a flying paperplane. But Roger was slapped with a flagrant foul, though. Ngisi pa siya, eh. But it's not as if he wanted to just beat the guy. Ganun talaga pag may rookie na nagbabantay sa iyo, di ba? You want to make sure you earn their respect.

Ping's hops are back. He was there hustling for every rebounds. But I think his timing is not yet a 100%. He still has yet to regain his dreaded shotblocking skills. Romel looked young and fit and just like what Earl said, mukhang nag-blend in na talaga siya. He only scored 4 points because he was given limited minutes. They're probably saving him for the next confy. PJ played well also and so as Kerby. I really think our team is strong so long as it stays healthy. We have enough big man already. Should Larong, Crisano and Sanz make it, I think we have a good chance.

For BGK fans

The loss is not something you should worry about because your big guns were not there. But you should be happy with Sunday, Billy and Ronald because they are more than willing to take the cudgels.

The new faces that suited up for you were Lao and Aquino. I'm not sure why you signed up Aquino. He did not play well but perhaps Jong saw something in him. Lao was okay. Hubalde also played but I'd prefer Macky anyday. Mack is really a pass-first guy but you've got to love the little guy because he's got leadership skills. He'll learn from JJ and Johnny. Speaking of Johnny, he was there but he's in civilian clothes. Kulay pink pa nga. Cute siya.

FIBA rules?

I think they implemented some FIBA rules in the game. There was one shot from James which was really a 2-point field goal but they called it a 3. When I looked at the rainbow, parang may tape so I guess they shortened the 3pt line. They also altered the freethrow line and they were strict with the handchecking. I'm not really sure but it's a good move to inculcate the FIBA rules.

So those are basically the things that I saw yesterday. I hope you liked it.

Meeting them up

For the first time, yours truly was able to meet Rose, Leah and Earl. I actually bought tickets on their behalf because they wanted to watch the game. I have been texting Leah since Monday pa. They were really great people. We talked about several things. Rose was so daldal but she's fun to be with. Leah and Earl were so bait. I instantly liked them all. Jhackie was also there but I met her na so yesterday was our second meeting. I was with my friend and they also became friends na rin. Hehe.

Cap during the nightcap

You wouldn't believe me guys but after the girls and I had dinner at McDonalds, a co-PF fan invited and picked us up. She wanted to meet us daw so she sent her friends to get us. At first we were clueless where we're going. Akala ko nga kidnap, eh. We were just in the jeep and everybody had puzzled faces. So in short, we tagged along with the sundo and ended up in this big house. And surprise, Cap Alvin was there. He was invited pala to dinner. When we arrived, Cap joked, "oh, batiin nyo na [ng happy birthday]!" Loko si Cap wala naman atang may birthday. So, we stayed there to eat, again, and to continue chatting. Inabot kami ng midnight. Cap and his friends were on a separate table tapos kami may table din. They served SanMig Light and our pulutan were hipon, lechon manok and mani. So kwentuhan ulit. From time to time, Cap would ask kung kumusta kami. Tapos maya-maya they played modified truth or dare. It was so funny because if somebody chooses to do the dare, he should spell his crush's name through his body, ike-kembot. I'm not sure about the mechanics of the game but in other words, when it was Cap's turn, RIOT! Grabe tawa kami ng tawa kasi may assistant pa siya. At first, hiya pa ata siya but then later on he gave in on condition na walang video! Hahaha, sumakit talaga ang tiyan namin.

Special talaga yung moment because dati I just see him on TV but last night he was just a yard away. Ang kulit talaga, eh. We came home almost 2am na. But it was fun.

Sorry, guys kung wala akong picture. Lobat po kasi talaga. Next time na lang. Yun, so until next time po.

Hunky Pinoy actor Dingdong goes all the way! Kids, it's x-rated!!

As if his sexy Sergio SantibaƱez role wasn’t enough, Dingdong is revving it up to show his bolder, more daring side by posting nude, I repeat, NUDE for Cosmo’s latest “ish” featuring the 69 hottest bachelors in town! Ano kayang sasabihin ni Karylle nyan? For sure she’ll have something to say. Anyway, Dong is 27 na pala so I guess it’s about time he change his boy-next-door image. Medyo naiiwanan na siya nina Dennis as Richard pagdating sa kasikatan. He has to go at the other side of the ocean.

Personally, the photo is okay. It accentuated his nice ass, biceps and great abs. I know Dong has worked so hard to get his body to where it is right now. Although sabi ng ibang bading wala siyang dating, his pose could still make girls oggle and salivate. Ano ba yun? Parang I’m speaking for myself, ah? Wala lang, I still think it was done in good taste and of course, it’s sexy.

So if you want to see more bod, more yummy male species, go grab a copy of Cosmopolitan’s

10th Anniversary Issue at your nearest bookstores or magazine stands.

A hunk and a chick from Baste

It was yesterday when my kumare handed me the 10th anniversary issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine. Actually, it wasn’t really mine; it’s for our common friend who has a subscription. Ang lagay, we were her “pick-up girls.” Along with the magazine, was the newest, hottest issue of Cosmomen - Summit Media’s annual collection of 69 gorgeous bachelors. It was the talk of the town last weekend because it’s the bold and daring Dingdong Dantes who’s on the cover. So, yun, binuklat ko lang to satisfy my curiosity. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this guy [referring to the picture] on the second page. He looked familiar. I looked closer. He’s Marx Pangan Topacio, a student from the same school where I’m serving as a staff as of the moment. Siya rin yung nasa billboard namin which is located along Cavite City checkpoint. Instantly sabi ko, lagay ko nga ito sa blog ko. But first, I made some research. Aside from modelling, I think his first love is basketball. He plays guard with the Baycats before. He lives in Kawit. His nickname raw is “Oyie.” Before enrolling at Baste, he studied at Colegio de San Juan de Letran from 2002-2003 taking up BSBA Entrepreneurship. Then afterwards he transferred nga to us and took up BSBA Management. Right now he’s into modelling. May commercial na nga siya ng Greenwich. Okay nga eh, because last Saturday nakasakay ko pa siya sa bus. He was in a semi-formal attire, perhaps, may racket. Heard he has a girlfriend, though. Pero GF pa lang naman, eh. Hehe!

This girl right here is Camille. I promised not to divulge her name kaso may sasalihan siyang contest so malamang ma-reveal din naman ang name niya in public. I don’t want to pre-empt it but we’ll see her on TV. Watch lang kayo sa ABS. Anyway, she’s taking up AB Psychology. This girl is pretty talented because she she could actually sing and dance. You'll probably want a piece of this no non-sense girl but first you've got to be smarter. She's a READS member. An organization of campus scholars.

So guys and girls, what can you say about them?

Now, speaking of Cosmomen, errr… I might have to save that for the next entry…

Which I will post now “CLICK HERE!”

Win back the crown

"Win back the crown" is an original composition done by Ate Chat and her outrageously talented gang. The song is dedicated, once again, to our beloved PBA team, the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants.

The doctors are in

Last August 15, 2007, the results of the Physician Licensure Examination was finally revealed. Out of 2,565 examinees, 1,737 conquered yet their first step in becoming future doctors-specialists. That's a 60.40% passing rate. Quite high, I think. From the 1,737, are 2 familiar names which I had the chance to be with 10 years ago: Roda Alvarez Alfonso and Jerome Ramirez Morada. They were both my classmates. They were my friends.

Dra. Roda, and I met in 1994 at Cavite National High School when we were both freshmen. Magka-klase kami sa I-Cattleya, the cream of the crop that year. From the beginning, I really liked her personality because she's frank and sweet. I remember one time when she thought "inutusan" nanaman ako ng iba naming classmates, tinanong ako niyan, pinagalitan as if telling me that I shouldn't allow myself to be bullied around. I thought it was sweet and so protective of her. We've had a pleasant relationship as friends and classmates. Then years went by, dumating yung Junior year namin. Would you believe we both joined ROTC? Well, it's quite unusual because I thought she was fragile, very feminine but she proved me wrong. During our numerous training sessions, she was a picture of a fine cadette. Before, I never knew she had that calling of becoming a doctor but I learned from our common friend that she'll be taking up something related to medicine. After graduation, wala na kaming communication. Then just last week, I was at McDonalds when I saw a familiar name written on this huge streamer right across the street. Sabi ko, si Roda yun, ah? Instantly, I felt really proud that I already have a doctor-classmate. Few days later, as if on cue, I saw her again at Jollibee. Nung una nag-aalangan akong bumati kasi doctor na, eh. I'm afraid she won't recognize me. Pero ang ending, she was the one pa who greeted me first. We just said hi and hello and then afterwards she invited me to attend her thanksgiving celebration on Sunday. Naalala ko birthday pala niya, so I extended my felicitations. Hindi pa rin siya nagbabago, mabait pa rin.

Dr. Jerome naman was our classmate, too nuong Senior year namin nina Roda. He came from the same school where Roda graduated from elementary. Jerome is a nice guy. He's quiet, smart and kind. I remember being seated next to him in our Values class. Just like Roda, hindi ko rin alam na magdo-doctor pala itong mokong na ito. Pero naisip ko, cute naman siya at bagay naman maging doctor. Ano kaya magiging specialization niya?

Drs. Jerome and Roda we'll be taking their oath in front of the Board of Medicine on Sunday, September 9, 2007 and the Plenary Hall of PICC.

Personally, I'm extremely proud about their achievements. Nine years ago, we were just young teenagers struggling to find our place in the sun. But now, we're full-pledged career men and women who work hard everyday to get to where we should be. I'm sure wala pa naman akong classmate na sobrang mayaman, kumbaga, the race towards our ultimate destination which is "success" is still open. And these moments? I think it should serve us inspiration to keep us all going.

Congrats ulit Jerome and Dhang!
